To construct an origami cube you will need to create six identical folded shapes.  These shapes are then slotted together to make a cube.

You will need

  • at least six sheets of square origami paper
  • time

Creating the folded shape

Constructing the folded shape needed to make an origami cube is an eight step process.  These steps are outlined below:

Step One.  In half.

Take a square piece of origami paper and fold it in half.

Assemble the cube

Once you have made six folded paper shapes you can connect them together.  All the flaps must sit in the same direction, like in these photos.

When putting the folded paper shapes together keep the flaps of adjoining pieces perpendicular to one another.  All the flaps must be slotted into a side of the cube, no flaps should be loose inside the cube.

That’s it!

Enjoy your cube building.  If you have any questions or suggestions post a comment below.  Thanks.

*This tutorial is to support a ‘Train the Trainer’ training session.  By the end of the session participants will be able to:

  • construct the folded sheets that make up an origami cube
  • put together six folded sheets to make an origami cube
  • demonstrate to others how to make an origami cube
